NEEDTOBREATHE - Drive All Night

oldrecordscheapwine:

“Tom Bombadil is the Master. No one has ever caught old Tom walking in the forest, wading in the water, leaping on the hill-tops under light or shadow. He has no fear. Tom Bombadil is master.”
I love Tom Bombadil - bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow - and it kills me that he is not in The Lord of the Rings films. I truly believe that PJ would have created an excellent adaptation of his character, had he been included.
There is just something about those few chapters with him during The Fellowship of the Ring. I think it is the sense of security that is felt when reading - he brings light and joy to the steadily darkening tale. The Hobbits are encountering the Black Riders and hearing whispers of other foul news as they take their journey out of The Shire. When Tom is around, it feels like nothing could possibly go wrong. It is the same feeling with Gandalf - when he is around, you feel safe, no matter what happens.
“Sleep til the morning-light, rest on the pillow! Heed no nightly noise! Fear no grey willow!”
